South Haven Steelheaders

Ice Fishing Tournament

On Feb. 9th 2008 the South Haven Steelheaders held their annual Ice fishing tournament. About 45 people fished, and 66 came to the dinner.  The dinner was held at the North Lake Inn, where if you brought a limit of Blue Gills the Thursday before the tournament you got your dinner at a reduced rate.  The North Lake Inn prepared about 800 fillets for the dinner which included cole slaw, potato salad, french fries, rolls and butter.  As usual Rolf Neitzel from the Steelheaders baked his famous cake for desert..

Winner of the big fish, bluegill was BOB HAYES with an 9 1/8 inch.  FRED SCHIPPA  was in second place with a 8 3/4 inch bluegill.  Winner of large perch was JEFF DEHN with a 7 7/8 inch perch.  Winner of the large crappie was JASON OCONNER with a 10 3/8 inch.  This tournament has been held for about 35 years, with the last four years sponsored by the South Haven Steelheaders.

The tournament was another great success, and we look forward to the same in 2009
